The Atmel XMEGA-B1 Xplained kit comes with the ATxmega128B1 preprogrammed.
The pre-programmed firmware (see AVR1619: XMEGA-B1 Xplained Demonstration) in the ATxmega128B1 is set up with a demo that primarily puts into application the LCD, USB and ADC modules.
The device also features a USB boot loader (see AVR1916: USB DFU bootloader for ATxmega) for a self-programming of the microcontroller. The bootloader can be started by shorting J1-pin6 to GND while applying power to the board. The bootloader can be used with “FLIP” or the command line tool “batchISP” (“FLIP” package).
